Empower Dalit Women and Children in Rural Nepal
Friends of ADWAN Nepal champions a grassroots approach to development. In our view, eradicating caste- and gender-based oppression is an integral part of building a just and flourishing society. Dear Friend,
Namaste!
We are delighted to invite you to join us in celebrating a remarkable milestone — the 27th Anniversary of the Association for Dalit Women’s Advancement of Nepal (ADWAN) and its inspiring journey of women’s empowerment.
Come be moved by the extraordinary stories of resilient women who have become true agents of their own change — replacing deeply ingrained caste-based discrimination, gender-based violence, and illiteracy with dignity, education, and self-determination.
From its humble beginnings with one small women’s savings and loan group in 1998, ADWAN has now grown to 6,200 women in 253 groups, impacting the lives of more than 153,000 people across Nepal. This transformation has been made possible through the unwavering spirit of rural women — and the generous support of friends like you.
This celebration is not just an anniversary — it’s a call to action. Come learn how your support can open doors to education, economic independence, and leadership for marginalized women, creating a brighter future for generations to come. Together, we can continue to break the cycle of poverty and injustice, building a more compassionate and equitable world.

ADWAN ECOSOC STATUS
We are thrilled to announce that the Association for Dalit Women’s Advancement of Nepal (ADWAN) has been officially granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) — a significant and well-deserved recognition on the global stage!
ADWAN is the only organization from Nepal to receive this prestigious status in 2024, joining a distinguished group of just 6,786 NGOs worldwide. This milestone means ADWAN, a non-governmental, non-profit organization, can now formally contribute to the vital work of the United Nations.
With a grassroots network of 6,263 women in 253 groups, ADWAN is positively impacting the lives of over 153,000 people across Nepal. From confronting caste discrimination and gender-based violence to tackling illiteracy, these courageous women are transforming intergenerational injustice into dignity, empowerment, and self-reliance.
This achievement not only amplifies the voices of Dalit women at the global level but also inspires us all to keep fighting for a just and inclusive world.
Congratulations to the entire ADWAN team and community! Your unwavering dedication continues to change lives and shape a better future for all.
Dr. Bishnu Maya Pariyar, Hon.DLitt.
Founding President,
ADWAN
